Mini Midnight Quilt
A pattern from "Simple Whatnots III" by Kim Diehl
I don’t know who needs to hear this, but not all quilts need to be big.
Here's a mini quilt I whipped up a few weeks ago, using the “Midnight” pattern from Kim Dieh’s Simple Whatnots III.
This 20” x 20” piece could easily double as a placemat, table runner, wall hanging, or even a cat blanket—the possibilities are endless! But since my cat Bella has already claimed several of my quilt projects, and I’m quite proud of this one, I decided to make it a wall hanging for my craft room. 🙌✨
All the fabric came from Joann. I spent a lazy Sunday there, taking my time to pick out colors and prints that I think look pretty together: black, grey, mauve, purple, stars, and metallics. I know: SHOCKING! 😂
I'm pretty pleased with myself, especially since I want to build confidence in picking my own fabrics for projects, instead of reaching for pre-cut bundles.
ETA: Nothing against pre-cuts, of course! It's just a personal challenge. 😉
For quilting, I used my machine’s walking foot to mimic some of the motifs from the book and came up with a few of my own. It's amazing what you can achieve with simple, straight lines! Here's a peek at the back:
This project was quick, easy, and so much fun! I finished it in about three days and I'm eager to dive into more patterns from this book.
Have you made any quilts from Kim Dieh’s Simple Whatnots series? If so, let us know in the comments. I’d love to hear all about them!
